The consultaion is very important.  The patient should have a concrete idea of what he or she does not like or wants to change. Those changes should be explained to the surgeon, possibly placing them in order of importance.  It is also important to interview the surgeon to see if their plan fits with your concerns.  Some changes are easy to obtain and others are more difficult.  Some changes can not be acheived.   There are the questions you must ask so you can understand whether the surgeon is or is not comfortable with the desired changes.  The patient must listen and hear the surgeon's experience and their concerns.  The patient's desires, the surgeon's abilities and the potential reasonable clinical changes all have to come together for the operation to be a success.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THE NOSE SURGERY CONSULTATION?

A personal consultation is the first step for every patient considering a rhinoplasty. During this meeting one of our board-certified plastic surgeons will ask what you’d like your nose to look like, evaluate the structure of your nose and face, and discuss the possibilities with you. We will also explain the factors that can influence the procedure and the results. These factors include the structure of your nasal bones and cartilage, the shape of your face, the thickness of your skin, your age, and your expectations. Good communication between you and your physician is essential.

Most insurance policies don’t cover cosmetic surgery. If the procedure is performed for reconstructive purposes, to correct a breathing problem or a marked deformity following injury, the procedure may be covered. Usually several prerequisites must be met prior to becoming eligible. In an effort to expedite your insurance prior authorization, we recommend you contact your insurance carrier to find out these prerequisites.
